Conditioning That Will Enhance Your Jiu-Jitsu Skills

If you want to improve your proficiency in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you must practice. Those serious about improving these skills should join a mixed martial arts gym and plan on taking a few weekly classes. In addition, one should also consider some of the following conditioning and strength-training exercises which will make Jiu-Jitsu a bit easier.

If you like to swim, consider a good swim workout a couple of times each week. This can be a great way to start off your day, and unlike many other cardio exercises, there is far less risk of injury in swimming. You will build strength in your upper body which will improve your grappling skills, and swimming will keep your heart healthy and strong, as well as improve your lung capacity.

If you want to improve your body tone and strengthen and stretch muscles, consider practicing some form of yoga. There are many different types, and while each one focuses on something a bit different, they all help improve your flexibility, balance and overall mental health. Hot yoga, also known as Bikram yoga, is a great recovery tool when you have been injured, so consider a Bikram class when your muscles are really sore.

While it might not be a particularly mainstream exercise, rock climbing can be a fantastic complement to your jiu-jitsu routine. Not only will your strengthen your arm muscles and upper body in general, imagine how much your grip will improve once you become a proficient rock climber. These days, indoor rock climbing venues are available in most major cities, so it really isn't too hard to find a spot to work out.

In addition to taking part in one or more of the aforementioned exercises, it is wise to sit down with a nutrition expert and plan out a healthy diet. This includes learning what foods to eat and what types of supplements will be most beneficial for your body type.

Choose a gym in San Diego that offers a mix of martial arts classes as well as conditioning and strength training classes. These strength-training classes can be almost as important as your Jiu-Jitsu classes. Be sure to find a gym that offers classes at many convenient times and one with a membership that allows you to take unlimited classes for one flat monthly fee.
