Options In Travel Trailers For Sale

By Harriett Crosby

If you are looking for travel trailers for sale it is important to know what to expect ahead of time. Many people do not know the difference between a motor home, a camping trailer and a travel trailer. Campers and travelers are similar but the size and amenities are worlds apart. Motor homes are in a class by themselves and cannot be compared to a trailer because they are driven rather than towed.

Travelers are meant to be towed by a van or truck and designed to give you all of the comforts of home. They contain baths with hot water, refrigerators, two to four burner stoves, ovens and relatively large living spaces. Many come with pop up sky lights and awnings for the outer front area.

You will find a large number of floor plans to choose from. Each one of a manufacturer's models may have several different lay outs and most will look like the interior of a well furnished apartment. You will feel like you are at home when tailgating, vacationing or simply roaming the back roads of America after retirement.

The sizes range from twenty to twenty-four feet in length and twelve to fifteen feet tall. Most do not feature slide out extensions because the size is more than adequate without them and it would detract from the original designs. Many of these models can sleep up to eight comfortably and twelve if you don't mind being cozy.

To accommodate the weight of the travelers you will need to own a large pick up or van. Smaller vehicles are not equipped for the weight of these trailers. Cars can only be considered if you are in the market for a camper. They are the lightest form of mobile structure you can purchase.

Fifth wheelers are also an option. They can be larger and heavier because of the way they are hooked with a special hitch to the middle of the bed of a pickup truck. They can actually afford you extra room because the goose neck design allows for more sleeping room over the bed of your truck. The interiors are just as spacious and durable as seen in other traveling homes featuring lots of wood surfaces and comfortable seating.

The last option is the toy-haulers. These are designed with a platform on the back to accommodate the owner's toys such as dirt bikes, ATVs or bicycles. The platform takes living space from the interior of the vehicle and so the feel is somewhat less luxurious than the other models. They have been likened to a garage on wheels by some consumers.

Sales personnel at RV lots can show you many different models of travel trailers for sale. The size and opulence of your choice is up to you. The best way to begin is to research prior to stepping onto the lot. As with any big purchase you need to know what your preferences are and the limits of your budget so that you can feel assured that you are getting exactly what you want.
