Take A Hike

By Malcolm Andersen

A hiking vacation is the best way to have a thrilling and memorable vacation at the same time. You can either go alone or bring your family with you. Either way you will definitely enjoy it.

Hiking vacations offer a variety of different adventures. You will be taking in the scenery as getting in touch with Mother Nature.

Take Your Pick

There are lots of different locations to choose from when looking for the perfect hiking spot. You may decide to hike on a trail or through a certain part of the woods. There are a number of cleared trails that can be used as a walking trail.

You can also go and look for an uncleared trail in the woods for a more adventurous hike. However, if this is the route you want to take, be sure that you have informed a relative or a friend of your plans, such as location and time, in case you do get lost. You are sure to have a great experience whichever trail you do take in the end.

Pack The Necessities

Be sure that you take very important and necessary items with you if you do plan to take a hiking vacation. On the other hand, do not overburden your load since you do have to carry all of it on your back.

Dress accordingly depending on the weather. Wear light layers if it is warm and wear thicker layers of clothes during the cold season. Don't forget to pack a light blanket for emergencies.

Don't forget the matches so that you can light up a fire. As a precaution, put the matches in a waterproof bag so they don't accidentally get wet. Pack a few light snacks since these can help you avoid hunger while hiking.

Bring more than enough water. Hiking can cause dehydration so it is important that you drink plenty of water. Don't bring sugared drinks or soda as they can also trigger thirstiness. Plain water is always the best drink for any outdoor recreation, including hiking. Take frequent breaks during your hike to hydrate yourself by taking a drink.

Take your camera with you. Wonderful scenery and wildlife abound especially in unmarked trails. You can take pictures or videos of these as you go along your path. Later, after you are well-rested and in the comfort of your own home, you can have the luxury of looking at the photos or videos you took to remind you of the fun you had.

Lastly, make sure to bring a medium size, light microfiber drying towel to dry your camera, your hair, and yourself when things get soggy. Large cotton towels are bulky and heavy when they get wet, not to mention they can get moldy at the bottom of your pack as they do not dry quickly.

The Hiking Novice

If you are a beginner in the hiking scene, then you should take things slow. For your first hike try doing it on a weekend. Bring along a hiking partner to keep you company and also to give you some tips on your first hike. Try to get some ideas and valuable information from other hikers.

After you get the hang of hiking, you will surely be hooked that you will always eagerly anticipate the next time that you can go hiking again.
