All About Underwater Photography Basics

By Rosella Campbell

If you have always wanted to be involved in this art, then now is the time for you to take those necessary baby steps. However, you need to perform them one by one. By doing so, you can be certain of a smooth flow in your operation and that will lead you to wrap up the fun or professional shoot in no time.

The first thing that you need to do is find a place that would give you the quality pictures that you want to achieve. Since you are still a beginner in underwater photography, then you are recommended to conduct a shoot in a swimming pool. Consider safe waters as your best friend from now on.

Second, get yourself used to seeking the light all the time. This element can be everything that you need to create pictures that are worthy to be placed in a larger gallery. So, if there is none of it in the location that you have chosen, then you will have to provide a solution to the problem by purchasing some artificial equipment.

Third, be on the ground most of the time. You do not have to dive into the pool so that you can get world class images. In fact, the sun can already make things easier for you. You will just have to position yourself in the right side of the pool so that you will not be a hindrance to the results that you want to achieve at the end of the project.

Also, do everything you can to get close to the subject. It does not matter if your model is uncomfortable with that kind of set up or not. Keep in mind that you are fully in charge of the whole situation. Thus, simply do some prep talk with them so that they would know why you are sticking your camera to their faces.

Moreover, try to know an acrobat move or two. Take note that you are not required to be a gymnast. You will just need to have more flexibility so that bending and fitting yourself into tight spots if you are in an underground cave will only be a piece of cake for you. So, start making those stretches from now on.

You will have to be more knowledgeable with bubbles as well. They may not occupy your pictures most of the time but they can be a great source of experiment. They can be a perfect addition to your images especially if your model is not capable of giving you the emotion that you wish to have in your project.

If you would be able to bring props into the shoot, then the better. You can use them to make your images look more realistic. They would also add color and interest into your creations so that other people would have no choice but to give them the time of the day.

Overall, never give up on this interesting kind of photography. It may be complicated at times but you can definitely manage. You will end up victorious. You will just have to believe in that.
