Learning About Frontsight Ammo And Firearms Training Courses

By Rosella Campbell

Front Sight is an organization that teaches people how to use firearms. The organization has been in existence since 1996 when its founder, Ignatius Piazza, began to offer classes in Bakersfield, California. In 1998, the organization acquired a 500-acre property in Nye County, Nevada, and their operations gradually moved there. The Bakersfield operations were closed down in 2002. Today, the goal of the organization is to train it students in how to use firearms and Frontsight ammo.

The company seeks to change the public perception of firearms and gun ownership in America. Many people have negative opinions of those who own guns. Many gun control advocates and political pressure groups seek to curtail gun sales and distribution in the United States. Americans have the right to bear arms under the Second Amendment of the U. S. Constitution.

In 2004, the organization acquired property in the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. This location is known as Front Sight Alaska. Its focus is on outdoorsmanship and activities like big game hunting, kayaking, fishing and bear safety. The organization is continuing to expand. In March 2014, it broke ground on a new condo and time share hotel.

Part of your training will include a lecture series by Jeff Cooper on the color code of mental awareness. You will also receive extensive practical advice on weapons use and role playing on what to expect and what to do in certain situations. You will be taught how to behave if you become involved in a self-defense shooting incident.

Many students bring their own firearms to the classes, however, some choose to rent them from the Pro Shop at the facility while doing the courses. Once you have taken courses, you can become a member there. Nearly ten percent of people who attend a course there become lifetime members. The organization offers lifetime memberships to First Family people with various degrees of entitlement. Most membership packages are available through their website, but some are only offered to those on their e-mail newsletter list.

As of 2013, there are nearly seventy thousand households with people who are members of the organization. Some of these are lifetime members. Lifetime memberships generally include course certificates. With this certificate, a student can take their first course at the organization for free. These certificates are usually given to family and friends or raffled off in various fundraisers. Sometimes they are donated to law enforcement groups or charities.

The organization has several different supporters and donors. It receives support from the Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership as well as the Gun Owners of America group. Another one of its supporters is the Friends of the NRA.

Big game and bird hunting is also taught at the institution. Many courses tend to focus on outdoor recreational activities such as fishing and kayaking for those people who may not want to focus solely on using firearms. Some people live in counties in which bear attacks are a threat, so the institute also offers a course on bear safety, particularly for the Alaska division, for people who want to learn to protect themselves.
